The large screen is both a blessing and a curse. Personally, I’d much rather set the phone open on the table so I can see everything. I found this to be of limited use in my short time with the device. The two curves form a notification window that can show you what notifications you have waiting, your battery level, and the time. The two screens are curved on the hinge side, which gives you what Microsoft calls the glance bar. On the back, three camera sensors reside in a camera bump so large it could show up on some topographical maps. The hinge itself is a 360-degree hinge that allows you to put the phone into many different positions such as Tent mode, Tablet mode, Laptop mode, and more. On the bottom, there’s a single USB-C port. On the non-hinge side, you get a power button with a built-in fingerprint sensor and volume rocker. When you’re using this phone, people will notice it and ask you about it. The occasional hair can get caught in the seam between the glass and the plastic, which is not a good look. It looks nice, but feels decidedly cheap. The polycarbonate ring running around the outside of the screens and the camera bump is the only knock we have on the design. (we’ll talk about the significance of that in a bit). They’re connected by a thin hinge, and on the hinge side, there’s a bit of curved glass. You have two 1892 x 1344, 90Hz screens with up to 800 nits of brightness. I have been using the Microsoft Surface Duo 2 for approximately four weeks on AT&T’s 5G network. The score has not changed, but I have added additional context to some sections after further testing. But that doesn’t make it any less fun to use. I am not the target audience for this phone. It’s a flagship for those people with a hell of a lot of disposable income at their beck and call. The Microsoft Duo 2 is still a device for power users and multitaskers looking to get things done. This year, Microsoft released the Microsoft Surface Duo 2, which represents a pretty big course correction, while still trying to fill the same niche. There are two batteries with an overall capacity of 3,577mAh. The Surface Duo is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 SoC, paired with 6GB of RAM and up to 256GB of storage. It has an 11-megapixel camera sensor with an f/2.0 lens at the front. The Microsoft Surface Duo was launched with two 5.6-inch OLED (1,350×1,800 pixels) displays that join together to provide an 8.1-inch PixelSense Fusion display (2,700 x 1,800 pixels). In a report published in February, Windows Latest also claimed that the Surface Duo 2 is codenamed “Zeta” and will be launched with 5G connectivity as well as an improved camera. Citing multiple job postings by Microsoft, which have now been removed, the report says that the Windows-maker is adding more engineers to the team that is developing the handset. It also adds that the Surface Duo 2 will put “special emphasis” on “fixing and improving the software, which includes the camera app”. The report says the Surface Duo successor could be called Surface Duo 2, and adds that the device has been in development “since the second half of 2020 and is scheduled to launch in the fall of this year”. The report also claims that apart from the hardware, the tech giant is specially focussing on the software to “deliver a mobile user experience” that brings the best of Microsoft to the Android ecosystem.Ĭiting sources familiar with the development, Windows Latest reports that Microsoft is prepping an updated model of the Surface Duo, the company’s first dual-screen Android smartphone that features two OLED displays connected with a 360-degree hinge. As per a report, Microsoft is working on the second generation of its dual-screen Android smartphone that is tipped to come with a faster processor, 5G, and an improved camera. Microsoft Surface 2 Duo is said to be in the works and the company may launch it later this year.
